  1. Update on local conditions from agent/authorities

  2. Check weather forecast/conditions enroute

  3. Study relevant and updated nautical publications

  4. Study navigational warnings

  5. Prepare passage plan according to QMS 6.2.5 Voyage Plan

  6. Prepare navigation charts

    1. No-go areas
    2. MARPOL special areas
    3. ECA fuel change over point/CE notification
    4. Reporting points
    5. Parallel indexing/clearing lines
    6. Position fixing method and frequency
    7. High density traffic areas/passing TSS
    8. Safe speed/machinery status
    9. NAVAREAs
    10. Chart changes if applicable
    11. Echo sounder activation point
    12. Anchor clearance
    13. Draft/air draft
    14. Master on bridge
  7. Prepare contingency plan in QMS 6.2.5 Voyage Plan

    1. Point of no return/abort point
    2. Alternatives routes
    3. Emergency anchoring/port(s) of safe refuge
  8. Calculate UKC in accordance with QMS 6.2.5 Voyage Plan

  9. Perform ECDIS setup

    Go to ECDIS Setup

  10. Consider other limitations

  11. Run "Route Check" on ECDIS

  12. Review plan with Master, get approval and signature

  13. Communicate plan to nautical officers, get signatures of understanding
